Ghanaians Give Strong Mandate to Regional Tribunals in New Nationwide Poll

The proposed establishment of regional tribunals appears to have won the confidence of a broad cross-section of Ghanaians, with a new nationwide poll indicating that the judicial reform enjoys overwhelming public support ahead of its formal implementation.

A survey conducted by GlobalInfo Analytics found that 63 per cent of voters favour the creation of regional tribunals, compared with 19 per cent who oppose the move. A further 17 per cent of respondents said they were undecided, underscoring the reform’s strong public acceptance.

The findings come at a crucial moment, following Parliament’s approval of the Tribunals Bill, 2026, which now awaits presidential assent before the new courts can become operational.

One of the poll’s most striking findings is the breadth of support across Ghana’s political landscape. While backing is strongest among supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), where 82 per cent approve of the initiative, the reform also enjoys notable endorsement among voters outside the ruling party.

Among floating voters, 55 per cent support the tribunal system, while 60 per cent of supporters of other political parties also favour its establishment.

Even within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), where opinions are comparatively more divided, the survey found that 45 per cent of supporters back the proposal—making supporters the largest identifiable group within the party’s respondents. Meanwhile, 48 per cent of voters who declined to disclose their political affiliation also expressed approval.

The results suggest that the debate over regional tribunals may be attracting wider public consensus than partisan disagreement, with many Ghanaians viewing the initiative as a potentially important addition to the country’s justice system.

GlobalInfo Analytics conducted the longitudinal telephone survey between 15 and 24 July 2026, interviewing 7,761 registered voters across all 16 regions of Ghana. The poll carries a 99 per cent confidence level and a margin of error of ±1.5 percentage points, making it one of the most statistically robust snapshots of public opinion on the issue to date.
