Health Ministry Shuts Techiman Krobo Nursing College After Student Unrest

Ghana’s Ministry of Health has ordered the immediate closure of the Nursing Training College at Techiman Krobo, escalating its response to prolonged student unrest that authorities say has disrupted academic activities and threatened safety on campus.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry said the institution would remain closed until further notice after repeated efforts to restore calm—including meetings, counselling sessions and interventions by stakeholders such as the Regional Security Council—failed to resolve the situation.

According to the Ministry, some students continued to engage in conduct that breached institutional regulations, disrupted teaching and learning, and undermined the orderly administration of the college despite sustained dialogue.

The shutdown forms part of measures aimed at restoring order, safeguarding lives and property, and providing authorities with the opportunity to assess the security situation before determining conditions for reopening the institution.

Students have been directed to vacate the campus peacefully by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, while parents and guardians have been urged to make the necessary arrangements to receive their wards.

The Ministry stressed that every effort would be made to resolve the impasse promptly and assured students, staff and parents that updates on the reopening of the college would be communicated through official channels once conditions permit.

The closure underscores the government’s increasingly firm stance on maintaining discipline and ensuring uninterrupted academic delivery across Ghana’s health training institutions, where stability is considered critical to the country’s long-term healthcare workforce development.
