Mona Gucci Defends Shatta Wale, Says Crowd Stampedes Are the Price of Superstar Status

Media personality Mona Gucci has leapt to the defence of dancehall star Shatta Wale following the crowd crush that disrupted ShattaFest UK, arguing that global music icons have long experienced similar scenes of fan frenzy.

Speaking in the wake of the incident, Mona Gucci dismissed suggestions that Shatta Wale should be held responsible for the stampede, insisting that the chaos reflected the artiste’s immense popularity rather than any personal failing.

Drawing parallels with the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, she noted that the legendary entertainer routinely witnessed fans fainting and losing control during his concerts, yet those incidents were rarely attributed to him.

“If Michael Jackson had fans fainting because of the excitement of seeing him, why should Shatta Wale be blamed when thousands rush to watch him perform?” she argued.

Mona Gucci described Shatta Wale as one of Africa’s biggest music stars, saying the turnout at ShattaFest UK demonstrated the magnetic appeal he commands among fans.

She maintained that responsibility for ensuring public safety at such events lies primarily with organisers, venue managers and security personnel, who are expected to anticipate large crowds and implement adequate crowd-control measures.

Her comments add a fresh dimension to the debate sparked by the ShattaFest UK incident, which saw overcrowding disrupt the event and leave some fans unable to gain access or watch the performance.

The controversy has ignited wider discussions within Ghana’s entertainment industry over event planning, security preparedness and the responsibilities of organisers when staging performances by high-profile artistes capable of attracting massive crowds.

Shatta Wale has since apologised to fans affected by the disruption, expressing regret over the unfortunate events while thanking supporters for their continued loyalty.
