CSSPS 2026/27 Results to Be Released Friday as Ministry Completes Placement Exercise

The Ministry of Education has confirmed that the results of the 2026/27 Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS)** will be released on Friday, September 4, following the completion of the national placement exercise.

The announcement ends days of uncertainty for thousands of students and parents after the Ministry postponed the original August 31 release date.

According to the Ministry, the delay was necessary to allow schools, parents and guardians to complete the submission of outstanding student information before the placement process was finalised.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, the Ministry’s Press Secretary and Spokesperson, Hashmin Mohammed, confirmed that the exercise had been completed.

“We are set to release the placement results tomorrow [Friday],” he said.

The Ministry disclosed that approximately 20,000 qualified students had not had their school choices uploaded to the CSSPS platform before the initial deadline.

The extension was therefore intended to give affected students an opportunity to complete the process and avoid being left out of the national placement exercise because of incomplete information.

The situation has highlighted the enormous administrative demands involved in placing hundreds of thousands of young people into senior high schools, technical and vocational institutions and other second-cycle programmes across the country.

For students and parents, the placement outcome can have a major impact on the next stage of a student's education, particularly where preferred schools, programmes and locations are concerned.

This year's exercise is also significant because of a major change introduced by the government.

Under the new arrangement, candidates were required to select their preferred second-cycle institutions after receiving their BECE results.

Previously, students made their selections before sitting the examination.

The government introduced the change to enable candidates and their parents to make decisions based on actual BECE performance.

The policy is expected to reduce cases where students select highly competitive schools without knowing whether their academic results are strong enough to secure admission.

However, the change has also placed additional demands on schools, families and the digital systems supporting the placement exercise.

While the Ministry has described the extension as necessary to promote fairness, the success of the exercise will ultimately depend on the confidence students and parents have in the results.

The CSSPS allocates students to institutions where available places are limited. As a result, not every candidate will necessarily receive their first-choice school.

For students who receive alternative placements, questions may arise over how their academic results, school choices, programme preferences and available vacancies influenced the final decision.

Clear communication from the Ministry will therefore be essential when the results are published.

Parents and students will need to understand not only where they have been placed but also what steps they can take if they are not automatically placed or wish to explore available alternatives.

Candidates who do not receive automatic placement can make use of the CSSPS self-placement process, which provides an opportunity to select from institutions with available vacancies, subject to the applicable requirements.

The pressure on the education system may not end when the placement results go live. Schools, education offices and other relevant institutions could face increased demand from parents and students seeking clarification or assistance with their placements.

The Ministry will also have to ensure that the CSSPS platform can handle potentially heavy traffic once results become available.

The experience of the approximately 20,000 students whose information remained outstanding demonstrates that digital systems still depend heavily on timely action from schools, parents and students.

Improving coordination among the Ghana Education Service, schools, parents, students, WAEC and CSSPS could help reduce similar bottlenecks in future placement exercises.

For now, however, attention remains firmly on Friday.
