Fuseini Inusah Akonsi Declares Bid for NDC Northern Regional Deputy Youth Organizer

Fuseini Inusah Akonsi has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Northern Regional Deputy Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when nominations open in October 2026.

Akonsi, a youth activist and party mobilizer, made the declaration after what he described as extensive consultations with stakeholders and party supporters.

In a statement announcing his decision, he introduced what he calls the “Dintum Project,” describing his candidature as a response to a call to serve rather than an attempt to pursue personal ambition. “I do not approach this decision as an expression of personal ambition, but as a response to a CALL TO SERVE,” Akonsi stated.

From TEIN leadership to regional politics Akonsi has previously served as TEIN President at the Tamale Teachers College of Education ( TATCO), where he was involved in youth and student political activities.

He later contested the position of Northern Regional Deputy Youth Organizer in 2022, although he was unsuccessful in that election.

His supporters say the experience has strengthened his understanding of the party's grassroots structures and the challenges confronting young people within the NDC. They describe him as an active mobilizer who has spent years participating in grassroots party activities and working within the structures of the party.

According to his campaign message, Akonsi believes this experience places him in a strong position to contribute to the mobilization of young people across the Northern Region ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The Dintum Project

Central to Akonsi's campaign is the Dintum Project, which he says will focus on building a more organized, inclusive, resourceful and progressive youth front in the Northern Region. He says his vision is to strengthen party structures, increase youth participation, identify and nurture young talent, and create opportunities for young people to play meaningful roles within the party.

“Our youth front requires leadership that Listens, Engages, Organizes & Delivers,” he said. Akonsi also pledged to work closely with the Regional Youth Organizer and other youth leaders, saying his objective is to strengthen existing structures while reforming areas that require attention.

Reaching TEIN and grassroots youth leaders The NDC parliamentary and electoral landscape in the Northern Region has a significant youth component, and Akonsi has specifically reached out to youth organizers within the party's traditional structures and TEIN leadership across accredited tertiary institutions in the region.

He called for cooperation among youth leaders and emphasized what he described as the need for renewed commitment to the development of the party's youth front.

“I recognize the confidence that leadership demands & the responsibility that comes with it. I do not take either lightly,” he stated.

Akonsi's supporters believe his grassroots experience, previous contest for the same position and background in youth mobilization could make him a significant contender in the upcoming regional youth leadership contest.

They argue that his experience working at the grassroots level could help the NDC strengthen its youth mobilization efforts as the party looks toward the 2028 elections.

However, the contest is expected to attract other aspirants, making the eventual race for the Northern Regional Deputy Youth Organizer position a closely watched contest within the party's youth wing.

For Akonsi, the message remains centered on service.

He concluded his declaration with the campaign message: “HOPE IS HERE. See HOPE in AKONSI.”
