GFA Unveils 2026/27 Premier League Fixtures as Title Race, Super Clash and Newcomers Take Centre Stage

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has released the fixture list for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League, setting the stage for a campaign expected to blend title ambitions, historic debuts and some of the country’s fiercest football rivalries.

Defending champions Medeama SC will begin their title defence with a challenging away fixture against Dreams FC, while last season’s runners-up Bibiani Gold Stars also open on the road against Bechem United, underscoring the difficult start awaiting the league’s top contenders.

One of the opening weekend’s headline attractions will be Debibi United FC’s maiden appearance in the Ghana Premier League. The newcomers face an immediate test against Asante Kotoko SC, offering supporters one of the most anticipated fixtures of Matchday One. Fellow debutants Port City FC and FC AshantiGold 04 will also make history by facing each other in their first-ever top-flight encounter.

Elsewhere, Hearts of Oak begin their latest pursuit of domestic honours at home against Berekum Chelsea, while FC Samartex 1996, Vision FC, Heart of Lions, Basake Holy Stars, Swedru All Blacks, Young Apostles, Karela United and Aduana FC complete an opening round that promises competitive balance across the league.

The fixture calendar also confirms the dates for Ghana’s biggest domestic football spectacle. The first Super Clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak is scheduled for Matchday 13 between December 4 and 7, 2026, with the return fixture at Hearts of Oak’s home venue slated for Matchday 30, between April 30 and May 3, 2027.

Regional rivalries are expected to add further intensity throughout the season. The Brong Ahafo, Western, Capital and Ashanti derbies have all been strategically spread across the campaign, providing clubs with crucial opportunities to gain both local bragging rights and valuable league points.

The league will officially commence over the weekend of September 4–7, 2026, and conclude on May 28–31, 2027, featuring 34 match weekends. The GFA has retained its decision to avoid official midweek league fixtures, a move aimed at reducing travel demands on clubs while improving player welfare and match preparation.

With the schedule now confirmed, clubs can intensify preparations for a season expected to feature a closely contested championship race, a fierce battle for continental qualification and another intense fight to avoid relegation—ensuring Ghana’s top-flight competition remains one of the country’s premier sporting attractions.
