GIPA Targets Ghana’s Middle Belt with $383.65mn Investment Drive to Unlock Agribusiness and Industrial Growth

Ghana is intensifying efforts to decentralise foreign investment, with the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) launching a five-day investment roadshow aimed at transforming the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions into the country’s next frontier for agribusiness, manufacturing and logistics.

The initiative, scheduled for July 27–31, forms part of GIPA’s Investment Opportunity Mapping Project (IOMP) and seeks to convert local development opportunities into investment-ready ventures capable of attracting both domestic and international capital.

The roadshow follows similar engagements across the Volta, Oti, Western, Central and Ashanti regions and underscores the government’s broader strategy of shifting investment attention beyond Ghana’s traditional economic centres.

According to GIPA, the three middle-belt regions have collectively attracted US$383.65 million in foreign direct investment (FDI) through 57 registered companies between January 1994 and June 2026, reflecting growing investor confidence in the area’s agricultural, industrial and mining-linked potential.

Agriculture remains the dominant investment magnet.

Bono East accounts for the largest share of investment, recording US$266.9 million across 15 projects, driven largely by large-scale agricultural ventures that continue to shape the region’s investment profile.

Bono Region, meanwhile, hosts the highest number of registered companies, with 32 firms generating US$56.7 million in investments concentrated in manufacturing and export-oriented agro-processing industries, particularly cashew, timber and related products.

Ahafo has secured US$60.1 million through 10 registered companies, with services, mining support, construction and manufacturing emerging as key growth sectors.

The investment footprint spans capital from India, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, China, Lebanon and Australia, highlighting sustained international interest in Ghana’s middle-belt economy.

During the week-long programme, GIPA will engage Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), traditional authorities, business associations and local enterprises to identify commercially viable projects capable of meeting investor expectations.

Activities will include stakeholder consultations, project exhibitions, investment pitch sessions, business-to-business matchmaking meetings and site visits across Sunyani, Techiman and Goaso.

The Authority said it aims to build a verified pipeline of investment-ready projects covering agribusiness, agro-processing, storage and logistics, eco-tourism, rural industrialisation and mining-related value addition while strengthening the capacity of local institutions to present bankable investment opportunities.

Since the launch of the Investment Opportunity Mapping Project, GIPA has profiled 378 investment projects from 188 districts across 15 regions, with 99 projects originating from Bono, Bono East and Ahafo, underscoring the growing importance of regional investment promotion in Ghana’s economic strategy.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the Office of the Chief of Staff, the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Regional Coordinating Councils, the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority and the Ghana Tourism Authority.

For policymakers, the success of the roadshow will ultimately be measured not by investment pledges alone, but by its ability to convert local opportunities into financed projects that create employment, deepen industrialisation and broaden Ghana’s productive base beyond its established commercial corridors.
