IC Asset Managers Brings Regulated Investing to MTN MoMo as Fintech Race Shifts to Wealth Creation

IC Asset Managers has deepened Ghana’s digital-finance ecosystem by integrating its regulated investment products into the MTN MoMo platform, a move that could accelerate retail participation in the country’s capital markets and redefine how millions of Ghanaians save and invest.

The partnership enables MTN MoMo users to invest directly in the IC Liquidity Fund through the mobile money application without requiring a traditional bank account, branch visit or additional paperwork. Customers can open an investment account, monitor their portfolio, make additional contributions and redeem funds entirely within the MoMo ecosystem.

The initiative reflects a broader shift in Ghana’s fintech industry—from facilitating payments and transfers to building digital wealth-management platforms. By leveraging MTN MoMo’s extensive customer base, IC Asset Managers is positioning regulated investment products within reach of consumers who have historically been excluded from formal investment markets.

IC Asset Managers Chief Executive Officer, Isaac Adomako Boamah, said the strategy is centred on bringing investment services to platforms Ghanaians already use daily rather than expecting consumers to adopt new financial habits. He noted that the firm’s 25-year experience managing institutional assets now extends to retail investors through a simplified digital channel.

The launch also advances Ghana’s financial inclusion agenda by lowering entry barriers to investing. With a minimum investment of GH¢1, the platform targets individuals who regularly save through mobile money but have traditionally viewed investing as inaccessible or overly complex.

For MTN MobileMoney Fintech Ltd, the collaboration represents the next stage in the evolution of mobile financial services. Company officials said mobile money has transformed payments, remittances and merchant transactions over the past decade, and the focus is now expanding toward helping customers build long-term financial security through regulated investment products.

The rollout comes as regulators tighten oversight of Ghana’s rapidly expanding digital investment landscape. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) recently directed online investment platforms, fintech providers and market operators to obtain appropriate licensing and registration by 31 August 2026, reinforcing efforts to improve investor protection, cybersecurity and market integrity.

SEC officials welcomed the partnership, describing it as consistent with Ghana’s Capital Market Master Plan, which seeks to broaden investor participation and deepen domestic capital markets. They nevertheless reminded investors that even low-risk investment products carry risk and advised the public to understand associated fees and product terms before investing.

The IC Liquidity Fund, which invests primarily in high-quality fixed-income securities issued or guaranteed by the Government of Ghana and selected licensed universal banks, is designed to balance liquidity with capital preservation. Client assets are held by Standard Chartered Bank as licensed custodian, while redemptions through the MoMo channel are processed instantly, further strengthening the appeal of digital investing for everyday consumers.

The partnership underscores the growing convergence between fintech and asset management, highlighting how mobile technology is reshaping access to regulated financial products and expanding the reach of Ghana’s formal investment market.
